Indian Navy commissioned INS Nipun

The Indian Navy commissioned INS Nipun, the second Nistar-class Diving Support Vessel, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on August 31.

The ceremony was presided over by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan.

Built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Visakhapatnam, INS Nipun is designed to support deep-sea diving, underwater intervention and submarine rescue operations.

Its induction strengthens the Navy’s specialised underwater capabilities and adds to India’s indigenous defence shipbuilding efforts.
