Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has announced plans for a dedicated Motor Sports City in Chennai, aimed at hosting international racing events and developing motorsport talent.
The proposed facility will feature an international-standard racetrack, modern infrastructure and training facilities capable of supporting Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3 and Formula 4 competitions.
The announcement comes as India explores the possibility of bringing Formula 1 back to the country. The central government formed a motorsport task force in June to examine the sector, with a stated vision of returning F1 racing to India by the end of 2028. The Tamil Nadu government also sees the proposed hub as a way to support sports tourism, specialised vehicle manufacturing and employment.
