An Indian woman Sneha Gupta living in Moscow has appealed to UP CM Yogi Adityanath after claiming Russian police detained her husband Chandan Gupta and is pressuring him to join Russian military to fight against Ukraine.
In a viral video, Sneha said her husband, an engineer from Kanpur working for Flex Films Rus LLC on Highly Qualified Specialist visa, was picked up around 12:30 pm on Sept 6 and jailed despite doing nothing wrong. She said family has a 10-year-old son and is in distress.Official Version Twist: Govt sources said Chandan and his friend Ashish were detained at 11:30 pm on Sept 5 in Red Square area for allegedly being drunk and damaging windows of an ambulance parked nearby. He is currently detained at Moscow’s Baumanskaya police station.The Indian Embassy in Moscow has taken up the matter, sought consular access and his release.
Background: MEA said earlier this month that 227 Indians were recruited into Russian armed forces, of which 139 released and 51 died. India is in talks with Russia for release of remaining nationals.
