Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, Urdupura

It is believed to be the sacred site where the upper lip of Goddess Sati fell.

Tradition holds that the legendary classical Sanskrit poet Kalidasa worshipped Maa Gadkalika here and attained his profound wisdom and poetic genius.

The ancient site features historical layers dating back to the Sunga, Gupta, and Paramara periods. It was renovated by Emperor Harshavardhana in the 7th century and later rebuilt in modern times by the Gwalior State.

The Gadkalika Temple in Ujjain is an ancient shrine dedicated to Goddess Kali, revered as one of the important Shakti Peethas.

Location: Urdupura locality, about 5 km from the Ujjain Junction railway station and 4 km from the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple.
