Ever wondered why your bedtime matters? Your body follows an internal clock called the circadian rhythm, which helps regulate when you feel awake and when you feel sleepy.
Keeping a fairly consistent sleep and wake schedule can support better sleep quality, alertness, memory, mood, metabolism, and overall health.
But there’s an important correction to the image: your body doesn’t switch to specific benefits at exactly 9 PM, 10 PM, 11 PM, or midnight. For example, sleeping at 11 PM doesn’t specifically make your hair healthier, and midnight doesn’t uniquely activate your metabolism.
What matters more is getting enough quality sleep, maintaining a schedule that works with your body clock, and being reasonably consistent from day to day.
For most adults, regularly getting at least 7 hours of sleep is recommended.
A healthy sleep routine is more important than chasing one “perfect” bedtime.
