First Woman to Lead CoBRA

Sanjukta Parasor, a 2006-batch IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has become the first woman to head the Central Reserve Police Force’s elite CoBRA unit.

Known as the “Iron Lady of Assam” for her counter-insurgency work in the Northeast, Parasor has taken charge as Inspector General of the specialised force.

CoBRA, or Commando Battalion for Resolute Action, is trained for jungle warfare, long-range patrols, ambushes, counter-ambushes and intelligence-based operations. Parasor’s career includes field postings in Assam and a stint with the National Investigation Agency, where she handled national security-related investigations.

Her appointment comes as CoBRA units continue to be deployed for security operations in areas including Manipur.
