National Security Advisor Ajit Doval called IIT Roorkee’s graduating students the “luckiest generation in a millennium”, pointing to the opportunities created by rapid technological progress and global changes.
Speaking at the institute’s convocation on September 19, Doval said today’s graduates are entering an era where technology will be a major driver of growth and progress. The two-day convocation will see 2,701 students receive their degrees.
Doval also recalled a difficult episode from his early career as a young IPS officer handling intelligence in Sikkim. He described how an intelligence team operating near the border was detained by Chinese forces after failing to return on schedule. Doval said he feared the incident could end his career, but a subsequent inquiry cleared him of responsibility and identified defective maps and sketches as the cause of the problem.
