Moscow faced what the city’s mayor described as the largest enemy drone attack on the Russian capital on Sunday, as Russia entered the final day of parliamentary voting. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said more than 1,600 drones had been intercepted across defensive lines since Saturday, including 450 that were heading towards Moscow. Two people were reported killed in the wider Moscow region.
The attack also damaged a facility at the Moscow oil refinery, while a drone struck a residential building in the region. Authorities said hundreds of people were evacuated from a damaged apartment building.
Sobyanin claimed the attack was intended to disrupt the elections, but that claim was not independently established. Ukraine confirmed strikes in the Moscow region but did not immediately comment on the election-related allegation.
