Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of ‘Project Rhino’ on Tuesday, September 22, to mark World Rhino Day.
The dedicated initiative aims to extend financial and technical assistance to range states for habitat management, anti-poaching measures, genetic improvement, and monitoring population dynamics of the Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros.
Expressing pride in India’s wildlife conservation achievements, PM Modi praised forest officials and local communities for reversing the decline of the species. The project reinforces India’s long-term commitment to safeguarding the iconic one-horned rhino, primarily centered in key habitats across Assam and West Bengal.
