Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli has once again drawn attention after a video of him at an elderly care centre in Thane surfaced online, prompting concern among fans about his health.
In the video, Kambli, who has faced health challenges in recent years, is seen speaking at the Nidan Centre for Elderly Care. He said he is currently receiving treatment and praised the centre’s facilities, adding that the care and affection he receives there make him feel at home.
The video also prompted Kambli’s longtime cricketing friend Marcus Couto, a former first-class umpire, to visit him at his Bandra residence on Saturday.
Speaking to The Times of India, Couto said Kambli’s condition was stable. He said the former cricketer had eaten breakfast on his own and appeared stronger than before. “He had breakfast on his own and in good quantity. Vinod looks better and a bit stronger too. He was walking and occasionally jumping too. His memory has not deteriorated,” Couto said.
According to Couto, Kambli occasionally visits a hospital in Bhiwandi, where staff also arrange visits to the elderly care centre whenever necessary.
Couto also said Kambli’s wife, Andrea Hewitt, was unhappy about the hospital video being circulated online.
