Mahishasura Mardini – Panchalingeshwara Temple, Govindanahalli, Karnataka
A magnificent jewel of Hoysala architecture, the Panchalingeshwara Temple at Govindanahalli dates back to around 1238 AD, during the reign of King Vira Someshwara of the Hoysala Empire.
This monument of national importance is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Located near Kikkeri in Karnataka’s Mandya district, this temple stands as a timeless testament to the devotion, architectural excellence and spiritual heritage of the Hoysala era.
It is the only fully surviving Hoysala Pancha-kuta temple, featuring five sanctums aligned in a single row.
The divine form of Goddess Durga as Mahishasura Mardini represents the triumph of Dharma over Adharma and the eternal victory of divine Shakti over evil.
