Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK supremo announced a key welfare initiative on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, introducing a free bus service dedicated to women across select districts in Tamil Nadu. Operational from October 2, the scheme is designed to support working women, female students, and daily wage earners with safe and cost-free daily transit.
Local TVK cadres and party units will oversee operations, with plans to expand route coverage in subsequent phases. The move is viewed as a major strategic step by Vijay to build grassroots support ahead of TVK’s electoral debut in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Under a scheme called “Annapoorani Super Six,” women who head their households will get free LPG cylinders. The annual cost is reportedly estimated at Rs 4,000 crore.
