Was Mamata Banerjee’s leg fracture fake? Medical records leak sparks political storm in Bengal

A major political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after the medical records of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were leaked.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari alleged that during the 2021 Assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee had no fracture or dislocation injury in her leg. He claimed that as per hospital records, there was no evidence of fracture. Following the leak of confidential medical documents, Mamata Banerjee’s lawyer has sent a legal notice to SSKM Hospital management and officials of the state health department.

The notice says sensitive treatment-related information was made public without permission, which is a serious violation of medical confidentiality law and professional code of conduct. The matter dates back to March 10, 2021, when Mamata Banerjee was injured in her left leg during campaigning in Birulia area of Nandigram. She was admitted to SSKM Hospital where it was reported that she had serious injuries in her left ankle and foot bone and ligament.

She was later seen campaigning on a wheelchair and TMC won a historic victory with over 210 seats. TMC has rejected Suvendu Adhikari’s claims and called it unfortunate and an attempt to influence bypolls.
