Sri Nadi Narasimha Swami Temple, Karnataka

Nestled amidst the serene countryside on the banks of the seasonal River Kanva, the ancient Sri Nadi Narasimha Swami Temple is located about 6 km from Channapatna, Ramanagara district, Karnataka.

Dedicated to Bhagwan Lakshmi Narasimha, the temple is believed to be more than a thousand years old. The name Nadi Narasimha comes from its riverside setting—Nadi meaning “river” in Kannada.

Legend connects this sacred place with Sage Kanva, whose intense penance is said to have given the river its present name. According to tradition, King Saraangadaara once came to witness Sage Kanva’s worship of Bhagwan Narasimha on Swati Nakshatra, despite the sage’s refusal. Angered by the king’s intrusion, the sage cursed him, and the village was destroyed.

Yet, through the devotion of the local people, Bhagwan Narasimha is said to have directed Sage Kanva to establish a temple on the riverbank. Thus arose this sacred shrine.

Even today, surrounded by agricultural fields and the quiet landscape of rural Karnataka, the temple carries an atmosphere of ancient faith. Devotees especially seek Bhagwan Narasimha’s blessings for relief from property-related difficulties and other troubles.
