Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Queen Forever has cleared a major legal hurdle after the Bombay High Court refused to block its production and release. Phantom Studios, which co-owns the intellectual property rights to the 2014 hit Queen with JioStar India, had sought an injunction alleging that the new film was an unauthorised sequel and breached their agreements.
The court observed that Phantom had failed to establish a prima facie case of contractual breach or passing off, noting that the films appeared to have little in common beyond the use of the title Queen and the involvement of Ranaut and director Vikas Bahl. However, the court left the door open for Phantom to seek relief and claim damages if similarities emerge after the film’s release or if it establishes that Queen Forever is a sequel.
