Paralysis, a Four-Year Recovery and a comeback: Arvind Swamy’s Extraordinary Story

Arvind Swamy’s journey from a 1990s heartthrob to a successful entrepreneur and back to cinema is a story of unexpected turns. The actor, who initially wanted to become a doctor, made his debut with Mani Ratnam’s Thalapathi (1991) and became a sensation after Roja (1992). He later stepped away from films to focus on business, building Talent Maximus India, which was valued at around ₹3,300 crore in 2022.

His journey was far from easy. A spinal injury left his leg paralysed, and he spent four to five years undergoing treatment before recovering. Encouraged by Mani Ratnam, he returned to acting with Kadal (2013), before Thani Oruvan (2015) marked a major breakthrough. In a recent podcast, Swamy described himself as a problem solver rather than a businessman, spoke about his aversion to debt and revealed that he is now working with his son Rudra on an AI-based technology business incubator.
