Singer Shilpa Rao was left disappointed after her live performance was abruptly cut short at an event in Mumbai on Saturday, with her microphone switched off before she could finish or sign off.
Reacting to the incident, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) issued a statement on X, condemning the organisers’ treatment of the singer.
The association alleged that Shilpa’s microphone and stage lights were forcibly switched off while she was performing, after which another act, Kutle Khan of the Kutle Khan Project, was allowed to take the stage and begin singing.
AICWA described the incident as an insult to Shilpa Rao’s dignity and the recognition she has earned. It also noted that audience members continued chanting her name after the sound was cut, showing their support for the singer.
The association said it would support Shilpa if she decided to take legal action and warned that it would pursue action against those responsible if artists faced similar treatment in the future. It urged event organisers to respect performers, stressing that no artist should be humiliated on a live stage.
