The Supreme Court has indicated that it is not in favour of imposing a complete ban on firecrackers during Diwali in Delhi, while considering measures to control air pollution.
During the hearing, the court discussed the need to balance festive celebrations with environmental concerns and public health.
The judges also suggested involving popular public figures, including cricketer Virat Kohli, in awareness campaigns to encourage people to reduce pollution and celebrate responsibly.
The court’s observations come amid continuing concerns over Delhi’s deteriorating air quality during the festive season, when firecracker emissions can contribute to pollution levels.
The matter remains under judicial consideration, with the court examining possible restrictions rather than an outright prohibition.
