91-year-old survives Nepal Floods

Guna Maya Bohara, a 91-year-old woman in Nepal, has become a symbol of survival after being rescued from a flood-hit care home in Devighat.

She was trapped inside her ground-floor room as floodwaters rose, but managed to keep her head above the water through a window until rescuers reached her. Images of her covered in mud after the rescue have drawn widespread attention.

Bohara was among the residents of the senior citizens’ care home affected by the devastating floods, which killed several elderly residents. She and other survivors were later moved to a shelter in Kathmandu. The disaster has caused widespread destruction across Nepal, with rescue and relief operations continuing in several affected areas.
