In a humanitarian rescue, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel saved 10 Bangladeshi nationals after their boat capsized in strong currents of River Ganga on September 12.
The incident took place near Border Outpost Khandua in Malda sector when alert troops spotted people drowning and rushed in a speedboat. All 10, including three children, three women and four men, were brought safely to shore. Among them was a 30-day-old infant who was critical but is now stable after first aid and hospital care.
The rescued persons, residents of Joharpur village in Bangladesh, said they were travelling from Chapai Nawabganj to Joharpur when the boat capsized in Padma River and drifted towards Indian side. After formalities, BSF handed over all 10 to 53 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Troops of 71 Battalion BSF carried out the operation.
