As Democrats make midterm gains, Khamenei warns of wider retaliation if US resumes strikes on Iran

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei warned on Wednesday that any renewed US military strikes against Iran would trigger stronger retaliation and risk expanding the conflict across the Middle East.

His warning came after Democrats made major gains in the US midterm elections, dealing a political setback to President Donald Trump.

Khamenei dismissed suggestions that changes in Washington’s political leadership or concessions by Tehran would end American hostility towards Iran.

Iranian officials also portrayed the election results as a rejection of Trump’s military campaign, which began with US-Israeli strikes in February.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts involving regional mediators continue as Washington considers further military action against Tehran.

The warning has heightened concerns over another escalation in the conflict, which has disrupted regional security, global energy markets and shipping routes.
