Sri Ulagalantha Perumal, Thirukkovilur

Sri Ulagalantha Perumal Temple, Thirukkovilur
Presiding Deity: Sri Ulagalantha Perumal / Trivikrama Perumal

Consort: Sri Poongothai Nachiyar
Location: Thirukkovilur, Kallakurichi district, Tamil Nadu
One of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu.

Significance
The temple celebrates Bhagwan Vishnu’s magnificent Trivikrama Avatar. After appearing as Vamana and asking King Mahabali for three paces of land, Bhagwan assumed His cosmic form and measured the worlds with His divine strides.

The name Ulagalantha Perumal means:
“God who measured the worlds.”

Great spiritual importance

Thirukkovilur is also especially sacred because it is associated with the meeting of the first three Alvars — Poigai Alvar, Bhoothath Alvar and Pey Alvar. Their divine experience of Lord Vishnu here is traditionally connected with the beginning of the Nalayira Divya Prabandham tradition.
