Television actor Devoleena Bhattacharjee has defended Karwa Chauth, saying people who do not believe in the tradition should not criticise or spoil the happiness of those who celebrate it.
In a post on X, she said observing the fast should be a personal choice and questioned why feminism and patriarchy are brought into someone else’s celebrations.
Devoleena revealed that she has never observed the fast because it is not a tradition in Bengali and Assamese cultures, but hopes to keep it someday. She also shared that her husband, Shanawaz Shaikh, asks her every year whether she plans to fast. The actor said traditions and celebrations are personal, and people should be free to choose what makes them happy.
