Tamil Nadu Gears Up for a Massive 2.5 GW Battery Storage Revolution!

Tamil Nadu is set to establish 2.5 GW / 10 GWh Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) over the next 3 years to strengthen energy security, reduce expensive electricity purchases and ensure uninterrupted power supply during peak demand!
Key Highlights:
Eligible projects to receive a 10-year waiver on transmission and wheeling charges.
Battery storage systems must maintain 95% annual availability.
Mandatory availability during peak summer (March–June) and coal plant maintenance (September–October).
Projects can be established on private, industrial and renewable energy park lands.
TN Green Energy Corporation will serve as the nodal agency.
Tamil Nadu currently has 29.8 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, including 14.5 GW of solar and 11.6 GW of wind power.
Battery storage will help store excess renewable energy generated during the day and supply it when electricity demand rises after sunset.
A major step towards energy security, reliable electricity and a stronger renewable energy future for Tamil Nadu!
