In the Union Environment Ministry’s ‘Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2026’, Delhi scored 172 out of 200 and ranked 21st among 48 cities with populations of more than one million. In comparison, Srinagar ranked 26th with 162.6 points, while Bengaluru stood 32nd with 152.6 points.
The ranking does not reflect the actual air quality of a city or the cleanliness of the air being breathed by its residents. Instead, it evaluates administrative efforts such as controlling road dust, waste management, monitoring emissions from vehicles and industries, construction and demolition (C&D) waste management, and the implementation of pollution-control plans.
