Why do Kids get Digestive Issues?

Frequent stomach aches in children are worth paying attention to but the cause is not always their diet.

Children can experience constipation, bloating, abdominal pain or diarrhoea for several reasons. Low fibre intake, inadequate fluids, infections, food intolerances and stress may contribute to digestive problems. Spicy or fatty foods can trigger symptoms in some children, but they are not responsible for every digestive issue.

Offer regular, balanced meals with age-appropriate fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Encourage suitable fluid intake and teach children to wash their hands before eating and after using the toilet.

If symptoms keep returning or interfere with eating, sleep or daily activities, consult a paediatrician. Severe abdominal pain, blood in the stool, persistent vomiting or signs of dehydration need prompt medical assessment.

Does your child frequently complain of stomach discomfort? Keeping track of symptoms and meals may help identify possible triggers.
