80% Indians are non-vegetarian

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at the Centre over the 100% vegetarian menu at the BRICS Summit gala dinner in New Delhi, saying “80 per cent of Indians are non-vegetarian.

“The remark triggered a political war of words. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera accused the government of imposing dietary preferences on foreign dignitaries.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju hit back, accusing Congress of “making politics even on the food menu.”India had used the summit meal at Bharat Mandapam on Sept 12 to showcase millet pulao, paneer lababdar, shahtoot phirni and other Indian vegetarian cuisine to leaders including Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and others.
