Shri Paschimasambhu Somanatha Temple, Odisha

One of the revered ancient Shiva temples of Odisha and is believed to date back to the 11th–12th century CE, during the Somavamsi-Ganga period.

A unique feature of the temple is its Shiva Linga with a Naga (serpent) canopy, symbolizing Shiva’s eternal connection with the cosmic serpent and divine energy.

The presiding deity is Shiva, worshipped as Paschimasambhu Somanatha. The name “Paschimasambhu” means the Western Sambhu (Shiva), and local tradition considers this shrine one of the sacred Shiva kshetras associated with the spiritual protection of the region.

Built in the traditional Kalinga style of architecture, the temple features a towering Rekha Deula (sanctum) and a beautifully carved Jagamohana (assembly hall) adorned with intricate stone sculptures.
