Green energy scheme ‘big push’ towards achieving 900 GW non-fossil capacity by 2035

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Union Cabinet’s approval of the ₹1.86 lakh crore Green Energy Corridor Phase-III (GEC-III) scheme as a “big push” toward achieving India’s target of 900 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by 2035.

Targeted for completion by FY 2032-33, the massive clean energy infrastructure push includes ₹1.36 lakh crore for intra-state transmission systems and ₹50,000 crore for deploying 50 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). PM Modi emphasized that the scheme will lower electricity costs for citizens, ensure grid stability, and generate significant employment across green tech, manufacturing, and construction sectors.
