Chamundeshwari Vigraha – Talakadu, Karnataka

At Talakadu, the ancient temple town on the banks of the Kaveri River, one can find this beautifully carved and worshipped Chamundeshwari Devi Vigraha.

The dark stone image shows the Goddess in a powerful form, richly covered with kumkum, turmeric and sacred offerings. The weathered sculpture reflects the long history of worship in this ancient sacred landscape.

Chamundeshwari Devi is revered as a fierce manifestation of Shakti, associated with the destruction of evil and the protection of devotees.

Talakadu itself is famous for its remarkable group of ancient temples, many of them buried beneath the shifting sands of the Kaveri region.
