British-American author Bonnie Greer Dies At 77

Acclaimed British-American author, playwright and cultural commentator Bonnie Greer has died at the age of 77 after a brief illness, her husband David Hutchins confirmed. She died on Tuesday evening.Born on November 16, 1948, Greer moved from the US to the UK in 1986 and became a British citizen in 1997.

Known for books like Hanging By Her Teeth, Obama Music and Langston Hughes: The Value of Contradiction, her work explored experiences of women and minority communities.A familiar face on Newsnight Review and Question Time, Greer served on the boards of the Royal Opera House, British Museum and London Film School and was Chancellor of Kingston University.

She was appointed OBE in 2010 and became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2022.Her husband remembered her for her warmth, humour, generosity and distinctive voice.
