India not a ‘middle power’ but a power in the middle – EAM Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India is not comfortable being described as a middle power, calling it a limiting definition.Speaking at Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi on Oct 13-14, he said, “More than a middle power, we are powers in the middle.
“He cited PM Modi’s definition of middle power as “countries who have the power to empower” and said with world’s largest population, $4 trillion GDP and huge growth ahead, India calling itself middle power would be limiting itself.Jaishankar said middle powers will now apply their own mind, stake out their own interests, figure out their own policies, and then reach arrangements with each other to shape emerging world order. He also described current global order as a “world of choke points” where finance, sanctions, rare earths and critical resources are being weaponised.
