Star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu returned to New Delhi on Tuesday morning after winning silver in the women’s 49kg category at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 in Japan. She lifted a total of 198kg – 87kg in snatch and 111kg in clean & jerk.
It is her first Asian Games medal and ends India’s 28-year medal drought in weightlifting at the Asian Games. The last medal was won by Karnam Malleswari in 1998. On arrival, Chanu said, “I have waited for this day for years.
