Typhoid fever

Typhoid fever is a potentially serious infection caused by Salmonella Typhi. It commonly spreads through food or water contaminated with the bacteria, particularly where sanitation and access to safe drinking water are limited.

Symptoms can include prolonged fever, headache, weakness, abdominal discomfort, loss of appetite, and constipation or diarrhea. Diagnosis may involve blood culture or other laboratory testing. Because symptoms can resemble other illnesses, proper medical evaluation is important.

Typhoid is treated with antibiotics prescribed by a healthcare professional. Prevention includes drinking safe water, practicing good hand hygiene, choosing safely prepared food, and vaccination when recommended. Anyone with persistent high fever or suspected typhoid should seek medical care rather than self-treating.
