Types of NAIL Shape with Disease Conditions

Your nails can sometimes reveal more than just your style!

Nail shape and appearance can change for many reasons, including injury, nutritional deficiencies, infections, chronic health conditions, or simply normal growth. This graphic highlights several patterns, including claw nails, tile-shaped nails (koilonychia), snail/spiral nails, hook nails, normal nails, and pincer nails.

Some changes may be harmless, while others can be associated with an underlying condition. For example, spoon-shaped nails may sometimes be linked with iron deficiency, while thick or unusually curved nails can have several possible causes.

Remember: Nail appearance alone cannot diagnose a disease. If you notice a persistent or unusual change in your nails, especially with pain, discoloration, swelling, or other symptoms, it’s best to consult a healthcare professional.
