Mahua Moitra agrees to delete defamatory post against Nishikant Dubey in Delhi HC

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has agreed to remove a social media post describing BJP MP Nishikant Dubey as a “fake degree kism ke aadmi” during a hearing at the Delhi High Court. Former Finance Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg also said he would ask a podcaster to block a portion of a video containing his controversial remarks about Dubey.
Justice Tushar Rao Gedela was hearing a defamation suit filed by Dubey against Moitra and Garg over their alleged defamatory statements. While Moitra’s counsel maintained that she retained the right to question Dubey’s educational qualifications, the court objected to the language used against the BJP MP and sought instructions on removing the post.
The controversy involving Garg stems from his claims about an alleged meeting with Dubey during his tenure at the Finance Ministry. Dubey denied the allegations, saying he had neither visited a Central government secretary’s office since entering Parliament in 2009 nor sought an official’s transfer or posting through a recommendation.
Garg and Dubey have also clashed over India’s reported 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter, with Garg questioning the figures and changes in GDP calculation methodology.
