Big Setback for Congress in Karnataka MLC elections, fails to win even one of 4 seats

The ruling Congress has suffered a major setback in the results of the Karnataka Legislative Council (MLC) elections. The party failed to win a single seat in the elections held for four seats in the state, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won three seats and Janata Dal Secular (JDS) got one seat. Notably, voting in these elections was done through ballot paper. After the results, BJP and JDS have targeted Congress.

According to the election results, BJP won in North-East Teachers, South-East Graduates and West Graduates constituencies. Meanwhile, JDS’s AP Ranganath defeated Congress candidate and incumbent MLC Puttanna from Bengaluru Teachers constituency. Ranganath got 10,810 votes, while Puttanna had to settle for 9,902 votes.

Regarding these results, JDS took a jibe at Congress saying that the party lost even in elections held through ballot paper. In fact, Congress has been demanding that elections in the country be conducted through ballot paper. In such a situation, opposition parties have got an opportunity to target Congress over the results of these elections in Karnataka.
