Tamil Nadu Takes Offshore Wind Power to the Next Level

India’s first offshore wind power pilot project is set to come up along the Thoothukudi coast, with a ₹77 crore tender floated for the project.
A 6.25 MW offshore wind turbine will be installed around 1,650 metres from the southern breakwater of the inner harbour. The project covers its design, construction, installation, testing, commissioning, and two years of operation & maintenance.
The electricity generated will be fed into the state power grid, potentially paving the way for large-scale offshore wind projects along India’s coastline.
Thoothukudi’s strong port infrastructure, maritime logistics network and favourable offshore wind conditions make it an ideal location for this pioneering project.
With Tamil Nadu already among India’s leading wind power states, this initiative could mark a major step forward in the state’s renewable energy journey!
