Radhika Apte said she deliberately stayed away from South Indian cinema because fair-skinned North Indian actresses are preferred over talented South Indian actresses who know the language.
She added that while South sets are very warm and informal, she didn’t want to promote a system where Mumbai actresses who can’t speak the language get cast and get dubbed, instead of local talent.
She was last seen in a South film in 2019 and will next appear in Netflix’s gangster drama Akka with Keerthy Suresh, releasing Oct 30.
