Banks to stay open on Sunday

In a bid to minimize disruption for customers, the government has directed all Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks to remain open on Sunday, September 27, a day before the proposed 3-day nationwide bank strike from September 28-30 called by UFBU.The Reserve Bank of India has approved that all bank branches, offices, ATM-link branches and Currency Chests will remain fully operational on Sunday.
The Finance Ministry said this will prevent a 5-day continuous shutdown as Sept 26 and 27 were originally bank holidays.Bank unions are striking for a 5-day work week and withdrawal of the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
Currently staff get two Saturdays off, they want all Saturdays off.The government said it has already kept the PLI scheme in abeyance, fulfilling one major demand, and urged employees to call off the strike and resolve issues through dialogue.
